Support Smylies as We Complete the Virtual Lands End to John O’Groats Duathlon!

This month, the Smylies team will be raising money for charity by completing the excruciatingly challenging virtual Lands End to John O’Groats duathlon challenge.

So in this blog post we provide more details on the challenge ahead and what charities we will be supporting, as well as information on how you can make a donation and support us on our virtual journey!

What is the virtual Lands End to John O’Groats duathlon?

If you are not familiar with the locations of Lands End and John O’Groats, one is located in the depths of Cornwall while the other is situated in the heights of Scotland. The distance between these two points is the traversal of the whole length of the island of Great Britain between two extremities, in the southwest and northeast.

This total distance between the two totals an eye watering 1,700 kilometers, and the Smylies team are to collectively conquer every inch across the month of May to raise money for two charities that are close to our hearts.

Of course with the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic we are unable to get out on the roads and complete this challenge the old fashioned way, therefore the Smylies team will be completing the challenge by recording cycling, running and walking exercises before totalling them up.

Each recorded exercise must be a minimum of one mile, and the full 1700km must be completed before the end of May.

What charities are Smylies supporting?

For this challenge we have chosen to support two charities who both fight for amazing causes, Dementia Together Wirral and the Northern Lights Children Charity.

Formed in 2017, Dementia Together Wirral stepped in when a national charity was forced to close their Wirral office, that left dementia sufferers and carers in the area without the supportive social calendar that had been built over the years.

Now thanks to the amazing volunteers at Dementia Together Wirral, these people are now still able to attend local memory cafes, singing and activity groups.

The Northern Lights Children’s Charity is another amazing charity, that provides children with life limiting illnesses across the North West with the opportunity to embark on exciting trips around the world.

This charity is also completely dependent on donations and volunteers, so it rely’s on the kindness of others to continue and turn these childrens’ dreams into a reality.
