Smylies will be one of the first UK export companies to achieve certified carbon neutral status and this is just one of the steps towards our goal of becoming known as an eco-friendly exporter.
We began making moves to offset our carbon emissions following an energy assessment report undertaken by Dr. Muhammad Ateeq and the Liverpool John Moores University Low Carbon Eco-Innovatory project, which is funded by European Regional Development Fund.
Becoming A Carbon Neutral Export Company
Dr Muhammed offered energy saving solutions, to help us take the steps we needed. He said: ““We were able to offer Smylies an insight into the most resource consuming areas. One of the most significant findings was that 86% of Smylies’ energy usage was coming from electricity consumption alone. Enrolling in one of the recommended carbon reduction plans was the best way to reduce this figure and become more energy efficient.’’
Smylies has since enrolled into the UN Certified Emission Reduction Credits scheme, resulting in Government certified carbon reduction.
The report carried out by Liverpool John Moores University gave us an invaluable insight into our energy usage and the resulting carbon footprint. As a business, we are committed to environmentally friendly processes and we want our customers to feel safe in the knowledge that they are exporting with a carbon neutral company.
